Written for schools, community groups, practices and small businesses — organisations that hold information about real people and have no IT department. No jargon, no sales pitch, and most of the fixes cost nothing.
This is a practical self-check, not legal advice. It will not tell you whether you meet any particular obligation — for that, check the current position with the OAIC or a professional who knows your circumstances.
Your answers are scored in your own browser. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to email yourself the result.
All the same deal: result first, email optional.
Eight plain questions about how your week actually runs. You get a score and a prioritised list of what to fix first.
Four sliders. See roughly what repetitive admin costs you per year, and what is worth doing about it at that scale.
Seven questions on whether you should buy software, configure what you have, or build something custom. It often says do not build.
No, and it is important to be clear about that. It is a practical checklist of things that commonly go wrong in small organisations. Privacy law in Australia has been under reform, so for anything about your specific obligations, check the current position with the OAIC or a qualified professional rather than relying on a web page.
The law is one question and reality is another. Community groups hold member details, health information for participants, sometimes children’s information — and funders, schools and councils increasingly ask how you look after it regardless of what the law strictly requires. Most of the items here cost nothing and take an afternoon.
That is a genuinely common and honest answer, and the tool treats "not sure" as a gap — because in practice it is one. It usually means the knowledge lives with one person rather than in a document, which is itself the thing to fix first.
Almost everything this recommends is something you can do yourself for free, and it is written that way on purpose. If you would like help we are here, but the checklist is genuinely designed to be actionable without us.
Twenty minutes. We will pressure-test what the tool told you against what you actually do, and give you a straight opinion on what to tackle first.
